Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande: Symbols, Impressions, and a New Sound-World for Opera

  • ALBUQUERQUE: Chatter 912 3rd Street Northwest Albuquerque, NM, 87102 United States (map)

Pelléas et Mélisande is a tragic love story that floats within the ephemeral music of Claude Debussy and the symbolist writing of Maurice Maeterlinck. This subtle, ecstatic opera presents the mysterious and fragile heroine, Mélisande, and the two men who love her, Golaud and his half-brother, Pelléas. During the presentation we’ll compare Debussy’s ravishing sound-world and the delicacy of the plot with the dramatic music and stories of other contemporary late-nineteenth century operas.

Admission is FREE.

Operalive! is a presentation of the Santa Fe Opera.
