Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman: Love and Redemption on the High Seas!

  • ALBUQUERQUE: Chatter 912 3rd Street Northwest Albuquerque, NM, 87102 United States (map)

Wagner’s Flying Dutchman is the story of an accursed sea captain whose only hope of salvation lies in the loving heart of a woman, brave and true. The stormy score and the suggestion of musical themes that help to tell the story make this a turning point for the great German composer, who was himself destined to change the shape of opera in the 19th century. We’ll explore the music, the libretto, and the elements of opera, old and new, that Wagner employs to tell this tale of love and redemption.
