In the Director’s Workshop: Bizet’s Carmen

Featuring mezzo-soprano Olga Perez Flora, tenor Jamie Flora, and pianist Natasha Sojanovska, with Oliver Prezant

ALBUQUERQUE, NM: How do directors make decisions about movement, gesture, and interaction on stage in relation to music, plot, situation, and character? Learn to “read the stage,” as we explore the final scene of Bizet’s Carmen, where Don José confronts Carmen for the last time. Familiar? Sure, but we’ll be creating our own version of the staging of the scene, with your thoughts and suggestions included, culminating in a reading by our featured artists, husband and wife team Olga and Jamie Flora as Carmen and Don José. The experience just might deepen your appreciation of staging the next time you go to the opera!

Program Registration: $25; Students with ID: $10.

Thanks to our generous donors, Ruth Burstrom and Niels Chapman, Bill and Alice Fienning, Susan and Steven J. Goldstein, Bernhard Holzapfel, in memory of Barbara Holzapfel, Sherry Parker, Martha Ritchie, Barbara Servis, and Dean Yannias, and our advertising sponsors, KHFM and The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.

Special thanks to Robertson & Sons Violin Shop for hosting this event.

Program and artists subject to change.
